Hermes wins contract extension for BT D-Island Upgrade

December 2009

Hermes has won a multimillion dollar contract extension from BT to upgrade their SCPC (Single Channel Per Carrier) satellite link for the Kashagan field development in the Kazakhstan sector of the Caspian sea.

The SCPC networks provide communication links between two sites and are best compared to terrestrial leased-line connection. SCPC is a well-established technology known for its advanced reliability, superior bandwidth efficiency and flexibility.

Hermes is supplying the satellite from D-Island in the Caspian Sea via Hermes' Earth Station in the UK to BT in London.

Adam Torry, Business Development Hermes, explains "We believe that BT awarded
Hermes this contract because Hermes has a well established infrastructure within Kazakhstan. This contract extension demonstrates that we have already provided an excellent service to our clients and that BT wish to continue working with Hermes. Hermes will provide local engineer support based in Atyrau, Kazakhstan as well as 24/7/365 monitoring from our Service Support based in Shrewsbury,UK. We are particularly excited about this project as we are using the latest technology to maximise satellite resources and deliver high levels of bandwidth to our customer".
